I might have found the perfect happy medium of living. You know, not too far from a city but still far enough for you to have peace and serenity surrounding you. Parks to walk through are also present, not big but present. A few shops, a market and a gorgeous view. Sounds pretty perfect, right? I have not even told you about the houses, how pretty they look from the outside. It just gets better and better.
The place I am talking about is Burano, Venice. Burano is one of the islands surrounding Venice. By boat it is about an hour away with one layover in Murano. An hour sounds pretty long but the views make it all worth it. The sea sparkles beautiful under the glowing sun leading you to various comparably beautiful coastlines. Venice being one of them. When arriving at Burano you are treated to a beautiful scenery of nature. The kind that you forget about when living in a city like I do. A city park just does not live up to it.
When walking more on the island, in the direction of the shops, there is one remarkable difference noticed. The houses, they look completely different from what I am used to in Europe. They are painted in all these beautiful bright colors. Making them very picture perfect looking. In combination with the sun, you have no option but to smile as you take it all in. Standing on the bridges that connect the streets you have a great view of how the different colors play with each other to form your smile. Well mine in this case.
When you continue to walk you will end up on the other end of the island. Again you are treated to a view I struggle to describe with words that do it justice. Imagine those first spring days walking out of your house and seeing the sunrise there by the shore. Afterwards go to the baker for a lovely italian breakfast, which you later burn off by walking by the coastline. Is this not a perfect morning? A formula for happiness is what I found in Burano. Slowing the pace, focus on the bright side and keep going (walking). You never know what greatness you might stumble upon.
Burano has given a whole new meaning to a calm life.
