Sometimes the cautious thing to do is to throw caution to the wind. It sounds like I’m contradicting myself but I’m not. Allow me to explain. In life we try to plan and organize everything the best way we can. We do this in order to achieve some clarity, peace of mind and to prepare ourselves for what is to come. Which is understandable, but our brains can only come up with an ‘’x’’ number of what ifs. Now if you’re an (over)thinker, you’ll just go back to the already in place what ifs and re-analyze those. Why? Just in case you missed something. I know, I do it as well. Here’s the clue.
Nothing was missed, only added. Your what if just got an extra dimension. Another layer to the vicious circle. Circles with layers become a maze that one can get stuck in and when you do you’ll be way more scared than when you started. Now we are scared and maybe even anxious which will lead to nothing. No movement, no decision making, no going out ‘n’ about. We’ll stay in the same ‘safe’ place where all the ‘what ifs’ have been declared tolerable. Is that what we want? I sincerely doubt it.
In order to prevent this from happening we need to either limit the number of what ifs or just trust our gut feelings. Limiting the number of what ifs is a hard process since we want to cover all possible outcomes. Trusting our gut feelings is a way more plausible thing to do. The only thing to overcome is that our gut feelings often do not follow the rules of logic and reason. Society defines being cautious as using your mind that runs on logic and reason to figure out the answers. By doing this, how you feel about things often gets overlooked. Therefor throwing caution, as is defined by society, to the wind by blindly trusting your gut feelings is the cautious thing to do. It will facilitate for something to happen instead of nothing. Do note that I’m not saying to never use common caution but when something feels absolutely right, which is a very distinctive feeling, it is worth throwing caution to the wind in order to protect yourself from yourself.
Your gut feelings are the opinions of your inner voice. Listen to it and life will start changing.
