Somewhere last week I did something I was longing to do for a very very long time. I finally went to Copenhagen, Denmark. Needless to say I wandered around Copenhagen happy as I could possibly be. Beforehand I had researched what all I definitely wanted to see, one of the items on my list was Christiania. Christiania is a community within Copenhagen and it is hands down the most amazing community I’ve ever seen. Within Christiania they have completely adopted the concept of “Livin’ life on your own terms”. Not just a few people no, an entire community is build around this concept.

While I was there I had the pleasure of talking to a woman who had grown up there. She told me amazing stories of how she grew up. One of the stories she told me was about what mattered the most in a person. What mattered most, to use her words, was if the person was an a**hole or not. If the person was in fact an a-hole, the interaction would stop if the person was not he/she would be accepted for all that he/she was. Even if the person was an a-hole it would be accepted she just then preferred not to interact with that person which is completely understandable.
When I first heard this I was in complete shock. How could a place this wonderful not be known all over the world?! Most importantly why is their life philosophy not known all over the world? If everyone were to think like that a lot of world problems would vanish into thin air. This is one philosophy I will remember and apply for the rest of my life. I’m so happy I stumbled upon this hidden gem in the middle of Copenhagen.
It is only when one travels one can find life philosophies that resonate with one’s core in a way that nothing ever has.
Love,
DCPR.
