Let’s be honest we’ve all, me included, thought about quitting, giving up and walking away a couple of times. In some cases we probably have quit, given up and walked away. This doesn’t mean we’re quitters, it just means that sometimes it’s the right thing to do. While other times merely thinking about giving up is the wrong thing to do. For example when you want to give up on yourself or your dreams because the road got hard, you made a mistake or you don’t know how to continue. It is in those moments that instead of walking away you should give yourself a second chance and another and another. Basically you should give yourself a million and one second chances.
I know it may sound silly to give yourself a million and one second chances. I full on realize that these are a lot of chances to give yourself but believe me it is needed. Following your dream, creating a life you love is hard especially when that dream life takes you off the beaten path. When that is the case you may appear to be running into a million more hardships than those around you. Mind you though the keyword here is ‘’appear’’, meaning it’s a game of perception. Either way hardships are hardships and they are all valid!
They can come in the form of having failed, invested wrong or made a mistake. Any form that makes you feel like walking away is the best option. It’s a perfectly normal feeling to have when things get hard however the road becoming clouded and dark is part of the process. It takes rain for flowers to grow and it takes stumbling to reach success. When, after legitimately feeling bad, you decide to get back up and give yourself a second chance you not only continue your story but you also reform your moment of ‘’failure’’.
Your moment of ‘’failure’’ will then become a moment of learning. Look back at what (you think) went wrong and start from there. A wiser person will continue writing and working on the dream. Will this mean that it was your last stumble? Probably not. As I said before stumbling is part of the process, therefore there’s always a chance for things to work out differently than you intended for them to work out. When you unfortunately or fortunately stumble again, give yourself time to heal and then a second chance once again.
Obviously when you continue this loop there is a high chance of you getting to a point where you might think something along the line of: ‘’That’s it I’ve tried every way I know how, I’m done.‘’. Or the frustration of not getting where you wanted to get to in the time you planned on gets to you and you decide ‘’This time, I quit’’. This is the moment where you will have probably given yourself a million second chances and are empty, drained and frustrated. Understandably. You’re only human you work hard and would love to see results. I hear you, I understand you and I’ve been in your shoes more times than I’d like to admit.
The thing is when we’re talking about your life and what you want to do with it. You know that dream you have in your head? Quitting, giving up and walking away is just not an option. You can’t rob yourself of something that’ll make you really happy just because of a ‘’bad day’’. This is where the ‘’and one’’ sets in. The title says ‘’Give yourself a million and one second chances’’. The ‘’and one’’ is for when things are way too hard and you don’t see how you will make the ends meet, come up with a new idea or find the heart and energy to try again.
Giving yourself just one more second chance to give it all you got, just one though will give you some room to breath because one sounds a whole lot better than simply saying ‘’I have to keep going’’. I mean you should but there are ways to think about it. Knowing that you’re giving yourself just one more second chance is way less daunting, energy-consuming or scary than ‘’keep going’’ which implies a long road ahead with who knows what you could encounter.
The one who keeps giving themselves second chances has the most chance at their desired outcome.
Love,
DCPR.
