Christmas time brings up a lot of different emotions depending on the person and/or whether you celebrate the holiday. As it is right around the corner everyone is starting to prepare for their way of celebrating and also, sometimes unsolicited, give their two cents on how you should be celebrating the holiday yourself. Kind of as if there is a right or wrong way to celebrate Christmas. I personally cannot speak for any other holiday besides Christmas as that is the one that I celebrate. It is because of that reason that I am here to say that there is no right or wrong way to celebrate Christmas.

I know that it is the time to be with your family, buy gifts and eat more than you have all month. However the thing is, for some people these or more unmentioned aspects are not attainable for one reason or another. Does this make their way of celebrating Christmas bad? No, no it doesn’t. It just makes it different. Different isn’t bad, it’s just different. Now given that we are very much allowed and cheered on to design the life we love, we should also be able to design how to celebrate Christmas.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for traditions but traditions work best when they are adapted to fit the happiness we’re trying to attain. Yes, I get that kind of goes against the definition of tradition but every tradition started with doing something once and then making it a ritual thing that you do. In this case every year on the 25th of December. So do things your way, see what you like and create your own personal Christmas traditions. There really is no right or wrong way to celebrate Christmas.
Classic Christmas Traditions
Don’t be fooled by thinking that because you are the only one celebrating Christmas that way that it can’t be a Christmas tradition. Traditions are made due to repetition, not the amount of people doing it. If your Christmas plans get you excited then those are the plans you need to execute.
Deviating from what is the “classic” tradition has been happening for years and years. What the “classic Christmas tradition” is changes a little bit every year. It is a natural process of human evolution and also capitalism, but the latter one is a different conversation. The point is changing things up is normal even if that change is something completely new. I’ll let you in on a secret; every change no matter how small introduces something new.

Well-meaning Christmas Advice
Last but not least what to do with all the advice that is to find basically everywhere? Take it exactly as it is, as advice. Which you can do with whatever you like. Or better said you can take it and apply it or you can say thank you and pass. Whatever you decide to do make sure that it fits with the happiness you’re trying to create for yourself. That it makes you feel like you are not only celebrating Christmas but your life, because at the end of the day Christmas is just a day but the memories last a lifetime. Make ones that you’ll love to reminisce about. Make Christmas a part of your December to Remember.
I wish you a very Merry Christmas in whatever way you decide to celebrate Christmas🎄🎁🎅
Love,
DCPR.
