As I said in my previous post about Marbella I’m not a sit on the beach for hours kinda girl. I’m more of a let’s go see what this city is all about kinda girl. My wanderlust is strong and my will to wander even stronger if that makes sense? However upon arriving at the promenade and seeing the sparkling water and the (kinda) white sand beach I suddenly couldn’t resist. I needed to sit myself down on that beach and enjoy a Marbella beach day. In the end I enjoyed it so much I spent two full days at the beach.
As my hotel was not along the beach I could only visit the public beaches. I was never really a fan of the whole towel set up beach day so I decided to look for an alternative. Most of the beach hotels will let you rent a beach bed for the day if they have availability. If they don’t, no worries there are plenty of beach clubs in Marbella where you can rent a beach bed as well. I decided to go for Mahiki Beach Club which offered a beach bed, a towel and a bottle of water for €20,- a day. When reserving you give them your name, email and time of arrival. They’re open from 11:00 AM till various hours depending on the day.
Now granted when it starts to be nighttime it’s not common to stay lying on your beach bed but, hey no judgement. I myself have spent two full days at Mahiki Beach Club, once from 14.00 PM till 19.00 PM and the other from 12.00 PM till 19.00 ish PM. When I told you beach day I meant it, just look at how long I was there! After those two days I was completely relaxed and at peace with myself. A wonderful state to be in to be honest.
I’m not very good at sitting and doing nothing so I filled my beach bag up with things to do. While I was living my best life lying there I read “The Princess Saves herself in this one” by Amanda Lovelace and “You’re a badass at making money” by Jen Sincero. Next to reading a lot I also did some writing, I know it was supposed to be a vacation but I love my job so I take it everywhere with me. Anyways the third thing I did was eat. I know it is strange to categorize this as an activity but let me tell you why it sincerely was one.
I have come to believe that while having a beach day in Marbella or anywhere else it is mandatory to have some ice cream, so I ordered vanilla ice cream as I always do. Here’s where things got interesting and why eating became an actual activity. What they brought me was not what I was expecting to see. It was a glass filled to the rim with vanilla ice cream, a strawberry on top with some powdered sugar. It was huge (cost €7,-) compared to what I was expecting, which was a simple two scoops as most restaurants give you, however my lucky self got Marbella Beach day serving portions. Can’t complain honestly!
The second day I started with a lunch at the restaurant of Mahiki Beach Club where I had their Chicken Skewers with a delicious sauce. The skewers on their own were delicious but that sauce was amazing so I had to give it a special mention. The prizes are very reasonable in comparison to what you get, just think back to my ice cream which I obviously ordered again because I love ice cream and that serving size. Apparently you can get my expected serving size as well because the second day the guy asked me how many scoops I wanted.
Speaking of service at Mahiki Beach Club, it is excellent. Everyone is incredibly friendly and I literally just had to get up to go to the bathroom or to swim everything else will be taken care of for you. There is always someone around checking up on you making sure you have everything you need. You can even eat at your beach bed as the couple lying next to me did. I opted against that for my lunch because I enjoy the dining atmosphere of it all. Also I’m a little clumsy and sand doesn’t give the best stability let’s be honest, even though they do have a table for the food to stand on steadily.
I’d discuss in length how amazing the water is but all I did was get my toes wet which I don’t think gives the water a fair chance at a good review. I did enjoy my little moment in the water and the temperature isn’t that shock cold. Another very enjoyable thing that happened was when I was reading ‘’The Princess Saves herself in this one’’. When I looked up to digest what I just read I saw plastic penguins in the water, quite an amusing sight. I was confused at first because the previous time I looked up they weren’t there but I had soon found the owner, a guy displaying how enjoyable his products are.
Last but not least a little word of caution. When you’re lying on the beach there is a high chance of street vendors coming by trying to sell you their products. These can range from jewelry, shoes to snacks and everything in between. It can be quite annoying but the best you can do is simple say ‘’No, gracias’’ and continue what you are doing, most will continue their path. There are some who are a little more persistent but say a firm but polite ‘’No’’ and it won’t be an issue. Just remember these are people just like you and I and are not trying to disturb your peace, they are trying to sell their products for their own livelihood.
Looking back on two Marbella Beach Days I can say I relaxed in ways I never have before.
Love,
DCPR.
