You know when you go somewhere, upon arrival you’re left in complete awe? Afterwards you can talk about it for days and days. Always willing to tell the story to whoever is willing to listen? The experience left such a mark on your brain that you want to share it. I know about that. Visiting Dunkerque beach did that to me, without me even noticing it. I was completely blindsighted, and that lasted a couple of days.
When I arrived I on purpose got off somewhere that wasn’t my stop just because the scenery was really beautiful. I knew Dunkerque was near the sea but I never expected there to be a marine so far in land, at least to me it felt as if I was no where near the sea yet. The view of the Marine was too enchanting to pass up. I was planning on having lunch at Dunkirk beach but the Marine view offered the enchantment I was looking for.
I was wrong about being from my end goal of visiting Dunkerque beach because when I continued my journey I arrived after three right turns. I mean if I had blinked one too many times I would’ve missed my stop. Finally I was at the beach after not having been for quite a while. Finally time to do nothing, even though I packed plenty of things to do. I had thought to catch up on my reading, have a little swim and have some ice cream.
Upon looking around and taking everything I saw in I decided the only activity I was going to undertake was enjoying the sights. Enjoying the sun and the tranquility it gave. For the first time in a long time I had spend time doing nothing. During my stay I ate Kinder Bueno icecream, slept and looked around. That Kinder Bueno ice cream was so incredible, I was happy to have foregone regular cone ice cream and went looking for that ice cream shop. The line is worth the wait, I only wished I had gone back to try the snickers ice cream flavor.
This all happened under the lovely warm rays of the sun, how wonderful. Unfortunately most good things come to an end, even my stay in Dunkerque. The first full day home I had a doctor’s appointment to finally get the tape on my arm removed (I sprained my left arm muscle). When he removed the tape, it became very very clear that I had been away to the beach. My skin was two-toned! I was left in awe. Visiting Dunkirk beach left a, so far, permanent mark on my skin. I spent the rest of the summer explaining that I’m not clumsy with sunscreen but just had a minor injury that due to a getaway became a somewhat serious problem. One I hope to fix with another beach getaway. The moral of this story is yet to be found.
Ironically I forgot to buy a souvenir.
Love,
DCPR.
