Unlike others I absolutely dislike massages. Unless it comes down to my hands or face. Yes, I’m aware that this is weird, but that’s besides the point. The point is that getting a facial at a salon is a completely different experience than giving yourself one at home. Even though I am a big fan of those as well. But you know, things need to be switched up from time to time. It’s necessary to breathe a different air sometimes. The same goes for having someone else scrub your face, so I went and treated myself to a special kind of facial, a Black Wawa Facial.

All facials go through the same basic process and afterwards start your special treatment, if you booked one. There is one part of this that I absolutely love. That is when they go over my face with the facial cleansing brush. My god that is such a sensational feeling. Not that I haven’t had a facial before it’s just been a while. So I forgot how wonderful it feels. I can’t even put it into words properly how lovely it feels. I don’t know I just have a thing with scrubbing my face. Let me live.
Also when they are putting the creams on my face it feels like a massage. It’s now that I get why people fall asleep during a (full body) massage. The soothing music in the background the gentle touch, what a recipe for relaxation. The gentle way the creams get rubbed in and then washed off with the hot cloth, sigh, so lovely. At some point she let the warm cloth rest awhile on my face and I immediately desired to leave it there for well.. Ever, it was winter after all.
I didn’t just have a basic facial I got a treatment called Black Wawa, which is a treatment for spots. They put this black cream on, let it sit and then take it off with this special machine. Basically the Black Wawa facial is a type of carbon peeling. The Black Wawa cream gets lasered off, which creates the peeling effect. The first time I did it was quite scary because when she started taking off the mask I smelled burnt flesh. Obviously not what you want to smell while you are in full zen mode! Luckily, nothing weird was going on, she assured me that it was fine and continued to zap my face, which created an even bigger burning smell. I wasn’t zen anymore I was anxious to see the result.
I have had this facial many times before however now, due to severe anxiety because the burned skin smell, it has been awhile therefore I braced myself for the worst when going in for my appointment again. In the end it was totally not necessary because my skin didn’t smell as burned as the previous times. Now I thought this was a good sign of improvement, but according to my facialist the burn smell doesn’t indicate anything. However between you and me, it does indicate something. It means I will be that bit less nervous (instead of full on anxiety) to look in the mirror afterwords to see whether my face is still in tact, which it always is. Luckily!!

By the way the burn smell does not equal pain. The facial doesn’t hurt at all, at least it didn’t hurt my. It just spiked my anxiety, which is not ideal either but something I have now completely (as much as one can) gotten used to. I’m talking about getting used to the smell by the way.
Who knew you can still feel treated after smelling burnt flesh.
Love,
DCPR.
