How I Created A Life Plan To Write A Life Story I Love

In order to actually write your story one has to know what the story is about. Had anyone asked me 3 years ago what my story was about I would’ve proudly said it was about loving what you do and doing what you love. Happily referring to my oncoming career. I was wrong. Not just wrong, entire galaxies wrong. I’ll spare you the story of how I found out but wrong I was. The saying was right, but the interpretation was off. Long story short I figured out that I need to make a life plan if I want a create a life story I love.

Clarity is important to me so figuring out what my story consists of is the next logical step. I point-blank asked myself the question:

“What does My Story of I consist of?”

to get to the answers for my life plan, which led me to stare blank at a blank page for an ungodly amount of hours believe it or not. The next illogical logical step was a trip to the arts & crafts store. Illogical because it was not really needed. Logical or maybe still illogical because I figured one needs to be an active participant of life. With my blatant staring I figured that much so with that in mind I picked myself up the following:

  • Sticky Notes
  • Markers
  • A3 Paper Sheet Block

The weird part is that my trip to the arts & crafts store helped me figure out why I stared blank at blank page. The question I asked myself was in the wrong order. It needed to be reversed. It should be:

“At the end of My Story of I what all did I do?”

As soon as I asked myself this question the answers started pouring out. Finally words started hitting the paper. It was literally a word vomit. Everything that came to mind I wrote down, no matter if I already had something similar on the page. After my word vomit was done I took a new A3 sheet paper and in the middle wrote ”life plan”, from there I started making a word web based on the 4 most important categories of my life at the time. The categories I wrote on the sticky notes, so I could change them whenever I wanted. My Categories are the following:

1. Career
2. Love
3. Dreams
4. Memories

I know these seem like weird categories but in my life they make sense. You should look at your own word vomit and extract categories out of it that make sense for your life and sequentially for your life plan. If you’re at a loss as to how to come up with categories you are welcome to use mine but only on the condition that you give another thought to coming up with your own categories in order to make sure they are a perfect fit. At this point in your life a perfect fit is important because why else are we rebooting our lives?!

Next was my attempt at organizing my word vomit. I basically gave every category their own color and did the same with all the words on the word vomit sheet. After I color coded everything I started looking at how I can group them together even more per category. For example I have a subcategory of love which is family, I have a subcategory for dreams which travel etc etc. As I ran out of room on the page with the word web I started again on another page and this time did per subcategory with brief details.

I did make a word web per category of my life plan as well as that gave me the peace of mind of knowing I hadn’t missed anything from my word vomit. It also helped organize everything better and clearer which I love. In the end I have 1 word web of my life plan and 4 more detailed ones per category. The life plan word web is the one hanging on the wall for me to look at everyday for me to not forget what My Story Of I is about.

However since My Story of I is being written one day at a time, there is a real chance that some things might not make it to the final print as I actually did them. You know as much as we try to plan our lives, at the end of the day it is life we are dealing with. The most beautiful organized chaos I have ever come across, so it is best to plan but also keep the previous in your mind, somewhere in the back though.

Make a life plan in order to write a life story you love.
