Life should be an adventure and it is up to you to make it so. Turn tables, open forbidden doors and dance in the rain. The latter is exactly what I had expected last week when I decided to spontaneously book a same day return flight to Hamburg just to be able to spend one day in Hamburg. The weather report said that it would rain all day and the next day it was supposed to be dry. However I did not have a next day, I had one day. One day off and a great flight schedule. The question that lingers was; Why Not?
Even though I searched this flight myself I do know a couple of ways to bring great flight deals to you, click here to find out.
I kept thinking there must be crazier things out there then going on a one day trip. Ultimately I figured that if I went on day trips by car I could also do it by plane. No big deal. Umbrella in hand I headed to Northern Germany. I had roughly seven hours to spend during my one day in Hamburg so I had to do some good planning in order to see everything I wanted to see. Unfortunately all my careful planning went down the drain as I upon arrival completely ditched my plan and decided to go for a very nice wander.
I have missed wandering around so incredibly much. Funny to say but the last time I wandered around was last year. Anyways I arrived at the city center of Hamburg and I immediately realised that staying home would have been a huge mistake. I mean my first sight was very impressive. I was surprised because it was not just what I saw in front of me, because when I turned around I promptly concluded that living in Hamburg must be amazing. Note that I had been in Hamburg for about five minutes. On one side there was amazing architecture and on the other a gorgeous sea view. I still think it is a correct conclusion.
Leaving that beautiful view behind I started wandering. The more lost I got, yes at some point I was actually lost, the more beautiful architecture I stumbled upon. I think I got lost because I was just looking up instead of around me to really pay attention to where I was going. Luckily I got hungry and I remembered seeing a place called Buffalo Steak House, so I reversed my route the best I could until I found it. I sat down for what I thought would be a semi-light lunch.
Really I could not have been more wrong. I basically had dinner at lunchtime, my lunch being steak, french fries and delicious bread. However I could not possibly be happier. Never in my day to day life would I consider having such a big meal at lunchtime. The furthest that I would go is having a double plate of pasta. I guess I will say ‘’Only when in Hamburg’’. It was good that I ate till I almost ripped my pants because I needed it for the next section of the day. Which was running. Running to hide from sudden rain spells.
I have quite a history with eating steak for lunch while abroad. In Manchester I also had a little hiccup with it. Perhaps there is a pattern..?
I had not meant to shop but since they have several big shopping malls there and it was raining cats and dogs outside I decided I might as well shop. I did manage to not buy anything. Eventually the rain stopped and I could continue wandering. I found myself at the harbor where I could have sat for hours. There were a couple more things I wanted to see so I continued to my next few stops but returned rather quickly to soak up some more of the harbor views. I spent my last minutes there, even pushed my luck a little because I honestly did not want to leave that view behind.
I guess the lesson here is, time does not matter. What matters is how you use the time you have.
Love,
DCPR.
